Okay, so I've never been hugely active here, but if you're one of the few who watch me, you might have noticed my profile page changing layout, my becoming a member of a few more groups, and certain parts like deviantID and favorites slowly getting filled in and restructured. I've been at this for a while, but I might as well just put it out there that this is all part of a major overhaul I'm doing here; little by little, I hope to actually make this little nook of dA MINE instead of just a (mostly) blank, stock, skeletal page like it's been since I first signed up here.

Things I still want to do include joining a couple more groups and making a few more subcategories in my favorites, and the biggie: compiling a stamp collection for my page (just thinking about that last one makes my brain falter). I'm probably gonna think of a few more as I chip away at this.

So, as the wiki Construction template says: please excuse [my page's] informal appearance while it's being worked on. [I] hope to have it completed as soon as possible (which is to say, it's probably gonna take a while ).

As I like to say, Brochu's got a license to build, and he's gonna use it! (Though, oddly, neither one of us are ever 100% sure what exactly he's working on.)

So I just heard of the U.S. Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, which is aimed at preventing copyright infringement here on the Web. I heard that apparently people aren't gonna be able to do stuff like fan art or fan fiction and post it on the Web without risking prison time.

WTF!?!?

Is it wrong for someone to want to draw or write about the characters they like? Virtually all of my works thus far utilize characters that aren't mine. If this gets passed, I may as well shut down my dA account. As far as I'm concerned, it's not infringement as long as you're giving the original artist(s) credit, and by extension not claiming the character as your own. I mean, come on. I have characters created by other people that I hold very dear to my heart and I'm sure anyone who reads this is in the same boat somehow. Whatever happened to freedom of speech or expression?

Well, as the last hours of 2011 wind down, I'd like to take this moment to say that this year has well and truly been one to remember for me. Here are some of the highlights of my 2011 year.

April: I turn 18.
June: I graduate from high school.
August (get ready):
21: I join deviantART!
23: I experience the first earthquake of my life.
27: A hurricane thunders through my area.
30: A fire breaks out on a building behind my house, later suspected to be an indirect result of the hurricane.
October: A snowstorm occurs two days before Halloween, only the fourth such storm in 135 years.
December: A Sunday Christmas.

Given that nothing this unusual happened in the first six of the last 12 months, I gotta say it's quite a way for a year to catch you off-guard, although I have to add, with nothing to do after my high school graduation besides job-searching, it has been rather exciting and has kept my boredom in check to a certain degree.

With any luck, though, the rest of my years won't be nearly as eventful.
